A Milanese legacy
The story begins in 1913, when Mario Prada and his brother Martino opened Fratelli Prada beneath the arcades of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in central Milan. The shop’s exquisite travel goods and leather accessories quickly won over Europe’s aristocracy. In 1919, Prada was appointed Official Supplier to the Italian Royal Household, adopting the House of Savoy’s coat of arms and knotted-rope motif into its emblem. From 1978, Miuccia Prada took the helm of the family house and turned it into one of fashion’s most influential design laboratories.
Leather goods that define the house
Prada’s Saffiano leather — instantly recognisable by its crosshatch texture and waxed finish, patented by the house — remains one of its enduring signatures. It defines the Galleria bag, introduced in 2007 and named after the Milanese arcade where the story began. The Cleo, launched for Spring/Summer 2021, reinterprets a sculptural silhouette first explored in the 1990s.
