The Boy bag was unveiled by Karl Lagerfeld<\/strong> for Chanel's autumn-winter 2011 collection. As the house's artistic director, Lagerfeld set out to bring a rawer, almost rebellious energy to Chanel's leather wardrobe. The name pays tribute to Arthur \"Boy\" Capel<\/strong>, the English polo player and great love of Gabrielle Chanel, whose androgynous spirit left a lasting mark on her style. \"She had this boyish attitude; in fact, it is the very spirit of Chanel. She got it from Boy Capel,\" Lagerfeld explained. The bag's silhouette is also said to draw on a hunter's cartridge bag that Gabrielle Chanel herself once carried.<\/p>\n\n

The clasp's backplate is secured with screws: Chanel never used Phillips cross-head screws, opting for flathead screws until 2015 and then proprietary star-shaped screws.<\/p>\n

The serial number deserves particular attention. Until 2021, bags carried a holographic serial-number sticker, meant to match the authenticity card.
