Collector, Chanel vest in navy blue cashmere, from the Métiers d’Art “Paris-Byzance” collection (year 2010/2011). Entirely handmade, this exceptional model is decorated with mosaic embroidery on the front and at the ends of the sleeves, combining glass and brass chains. It is also distinguished by its 5 square jewelry buttons, reminiscent of the treasures of Byzantine jewelry, as well as its elegant pagoda sleeves.
This collection pays homage to the ancient imperial capital of Byzantium, fusing the excellence of French haute couture with the opulence of Ottoman heritage. The Byzantine Empire, recognized for its artistic and cultural wealth, left behind masterpieces such as the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, a major source of inspiration for Karl Lagerfeld in the design of this collection. The latter even dedicated a work to him entitled Byzantin Fragments.
